FAQs
Other Considerations
Q: How can I work at the new Hospital?
A: Our Human Resources Department is currently in the process of developing a plan for staffing the new Hospital. We have not yet begun recruiting for the New Oakville Hospital. To be notified when our on-line application process begins, please visit us online.
Q: Will there still be a volunteer program?
A: As with the current Hospital volunteers will continue to be an integral part of the healthcare team at the new Hospital.
Q: Who has been involved in the planning process?
A: Staff and physicians have been engaged in user groups through each phase of planning and will continue to be an important source of input. Groups have been facilitated by external consultants with oversight and participation by members of the Redevelopment Office.
Front-line staff, managers and program leaders were instrumental in developing the Functional Program, a document that identifies the functions, procedures, workloads, staffing and physical space requirements for the project.
During the Block Schematic Design stage, staff and physicians were engaged in discussions to address interdepartmental planning relationships and departmental zone requirements; departmental test layouts, test fits, templates and data sheets; and overarching building design activities including site development, architectural, mechanical, electrical, sustainable design, infection control, emergency measures, facilities management and accessibility and wayfinding.
In March 2007, we held several Community Design Assessment Focus Groups with patients and their families, volunteers, physicians, staff, and community representatives. The goal of these focus groups was to identify the top design priorities of future users of the new Hospital. These priorities, which identified such things as sensitive interior design and patient rooms designed for privacy, were incorporated into the hospital's preliminary designs.
Q: How can I get involved?
A: Community involvement is very important to the success of this project. To initiate this, we held a number of community design assessment focus groups to help engage the community in the planning and development of the New Oakville Hospital. Representatives from the Oakville community, former and current patients, visitors as well as physicians, hospital employees and volunteers were invited to be part of a planning process that will help shape the look and feel of the New Oakville Hospital.
We have held several Community Update sessions and will continue to engage the community as the project moves forward.
